In the past few days, rumors have been swirling that Tech football Coach Mike Leach could be leaving for another school. Now Tech officals are trying harder to keep him.

So is he going to Washington, is he going to Auburn... Well -- today Chancellor Hance tells us he's confident Coach Leach is staying right here at Texas Tech, and the University's willing to fight for him.

Chancellor Hance tells us the fact that Coach Leach has built a solid football program over the last nine years combined with folks here just plain like him, gives the university every reason to make the effort to make him happy here at Texas Tech.

Even an un-official website -- 'KeepLeach.Com' is taking donations to help with a possible pay raise if that's what it takes.

But it might not be necessary. Chancellor Hance says the university is willing to fight for him -- and would put up the money if it kept Coach Leach comfortable.

Chancellor Kent Hance: "The key is, we want him. We like him, Mike Leach is a great fit for us, we like the program that he runs. We also have to be realistic. We cannot pay an unreasonable sum. We have to be very careful with the dollars that we do have. We're going to try everything possible to keep him happy. And I think we can do that.

Hance also says officials are in talks with Coach Leach's agent, and hopefully will have something worked out in the next couple of days.

Of course if you want to help out -- donations are always welcomed and they are tax-deductible.
