South Plains Food Bank Hands Out Holiday Cheer

By: Kristen Kennedy
Updated: December 20, 2008
Volunteers at the South Plains Food Bank are handing out Christmas cheer to needy families around Lubbock. From now until Christmas Eve, the food bank is providing low-income families with enough food to make a hearty holiday meal. South Plains Food Bank relies on volunteers' help and donations. And while those volunteers may be the ones giving this holiday season, they are still receiving a certain joy that comes from helping others.

"As we give and as others receive we're able to see the joy and we're able to see the hope. It strengthens us," says First United Methodist member Doug Chapman.

The South Plains Food Bank always accepts non-perishable food item donations and welcomes any new volunteers. The bank will continue to hand out boxes for Christmas meals next week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
