A pit bull attacks one local family's dog, killing it and injuring other neighbors in the process. Right now the pit bull remains in quarantine at Lubbock Animal Services, but the dog -- known as Cyclone -- certainly caused a whirlwind when it somehow got out of it's owners back yard, then attacked and killed a nearby yorkie.

The attack happened Saturday afternoon while an elderly couple were taking their yorkie Sam on a walk. They tell us the pit bull came running up, latched on to their yorkie, and wouldn't let go. They say it took two other men to pull the pit bull away.

Another neighbor also walking her dog at the time was targeted next. Fortunately, that dog is okay, but the owner needed stitches on her lower lip.

Now -- Lubbock Law holds the dog's owner responsible for the damages. Animal Services tell us they will be doing a criminal investigation.

Kevin Overstreet, Animal Services Director: "We ask the citizens, time and time again, if you're going to own a pet, please be a responsible pet owner. If you're not going to be a responsible pet owner, give us a call. We'll come out and pick your pet up, and we'll do everything we can to get it into the adoption program."

If found guilty, the owner could face up to ten years in prison.

The elderly couple tells us they are grieving the loss of their dog, but wish no ill feelings on the dog's owner. They say the owner has been very apologetic and even delivered some flowers Thursday morning.
