From inmate to dog walker! Some Lubbock County Jail inmates got a new job this week. It's an extension of the Inmate Work Program, sponsored by the city and the county.

Five low-risk prisoners take about 2 hours everyday to walk and play with the dogs at the animal shelter. They give each of the 60-80 dogs about 10 minutes of time outside. Animal services Director Kevin Overstreet says it saves the city money, and it's a treat for both the inmates and the animals, "Our staff level is not really where we want it to be so we decided to take advantage of this inmate work program and walk these dogs in the mornings."
