What started as a simple wreckless driving call ended with the suspect in the hospital and facing serious charges.

Around 9:30 Saturday evening, a Lubbock Police officer pursues a wreckless driver in a red and white Chevy around 50th St. and Avenue Q.  Lights flashing, sirens blaring, the driver, 34-year-old Lonnie Poole, kept going.  The officer followed him to Lubbock city limits and onto county dirt roads off I27.  It was there where he called for backup from DPS after losing sight of the truck.  DPS Trooper Troy McKee caught up to Poole within minutes and the chase continued.

Officials say the truck finally got stuck at 114th and Upland, and when the Trooper tried to get Poole out of the car, he reversed into the Trooper and his cruiser.  Trooper McKee fired several shots into the driverside door, but the truck drove off.

Nearly an hour after it all began, the chase finally came to an end 3 miles West of Smyer after Hockley County deputies rammed into the truck to stop it.  Poole was arrested and sent to the hospital with what witnesses say were gunshot wounds to the leg.

Officials have not released what charges Poole will be facing for evading authorities.  Poole's record shows several previous charges ranging from aggravated robbery to assault of a public servant.
