Controversy hit Estacado High School after misunderstanding over who polices the campus.

According LISD officials, a peace officer was on the Estacado campus when he came upon a possible sexual assault in progress.

The officer called police dispatch and asked that a LISD officer come out to handle the matter.

According to dispatch tapes, LISD police said they were not allowed to respond to Estacado and to get Lubbock POlice.

School officials said wrong terminology was used and that LISD will only respond in an emergency because LISD has hired several off-duty LPD officers to patrol the area and deal with any problems.

LISD officials said they dropped the ball by not properly briefing staff, officials and parents on the new program.
