A 5-year-old is left on the school bus after he fell asleep on the ride to school. Now Roosevelt ISD could be facing child neglect charges.

The mom tells us her son came home yesterday in tears saying he had fallen asleep on the bus and woke up to realize he was all alone. Apparently, after driving the rounds, the bus driver failed to walk the aisles after he had parked at the school. The little boy had fallen asleep, and when he woke up, everyone else was gone.

The mother says he figured out how to open the bus door because he had seen the driver do it before, that's when someone saw the boy and took him inside. A report has been filed, and if it's found criminal intent was involved upon investigation the bus driver could face felony charges for child neglect.

Now, it's not state law for bus drivers to check, however, it is policy for several districts in the area. Roosevelt ISD officials say it was a complete accident, and that every bus driver on staff is completely reliable.

Behrl Robertson: "He feels absolutely awful. He's a great bus driver, he works in our bus barn, and he does a great job for us. It's just one of those things, he just didn't check it. We're gonna welcome anybody and everybody that comes our way regarding this, we have nothing to hide. It's something, when your school district, sometimes things happen."
