City workers along with the help of several jail inmates have begin the task of clearing books and furniture form the Godeke Library.

Last week the library was shut down due to mold problems found after an employee complained of getting sick every time it rained.

Wes Everret, the Director of Facilities Management for the City of Lubbock, said at this point there is no way to determine how bad the problem is, how much it will cost and how long the Godeke will be closed till a full inspection takes place after everything is removed.

"A lot of times with mold, you see about a 10 percent or a small percentage on the outside where you can actually see it," said Everett. "A lot of your growth is behind the scenes, and we'll have to do an intrusive investigation into the structure."

For now, library patrons can return their books to other library branches.
