State Waives Marriage License Fee In Exchange For Marriage Education

Planning to say 'I do'? The state passes a law to give you free marriage classes and a financial break on your marriage license! Texas is now offering free marriage education classes around the state to build stronger families.
 
It's known as the Healthy Marriage Initiative, and if couples complete the 8-hour class, they save $60 on their marriage license, not to mention foregoing the 72 hour waiting period. We spoke to a newly engaged couple about their perspective on the new deal.

Says Says Scott Layher, "We're engaged and we don't know what marriage is like yet, and everyone says the first couple years of marriage, it's all new, and having some different perspective and working out some issues before, it's not a bad thing at all."
