Three men are in custody tonight after a high speed police chase down US 87 after police say they tried to burglarize a house, and may be responsible for dozens more.
The chase ended less than a mile north of the Lynn County line after a high speed chase. Police managed to get the three suspects to pull over. Those men are now thought to be connected to 35 other burglaries in 4 different counties.
Police received the call around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon that three men were trying to break into a home in southwest Lubbock County. Luckily, there were a few patrol cars already in the area and were able to catch up to the suspects as they fled in a Black Lexus. About 25 law enforcement vehicles were called to assist in order to block any possible escape routes.
The chase lasted about ten minutes with speeds exceeding 130 miles per hour. All three suspects are thought to be connected to 35 other burglaries in 4 different counties -- including Lubbock, Hockley, Lynn, and Hale counties.
Chief Deputy Paul Scarborough: "These guys were operating pretty freely. They thought they had a pretty foolproof plan apparently. But, just like anything else, time is on our side. If they keep it up, we'll catch them. And we got lucky today, we had a lot of good help."
Now, no official charges have been made for the three suspects, but it's expected that they will have several different charges for each of them.
We'll of course keep you updated on the latest.
