Teachers Want Bigger School Budget

Teachers across the state are looking to state legislators to come up with a solution to tighter funding in the classroom. Lubbock schools have been working with a budget that hasn't increased since 2006. With the cost of gas and electricity going up, schools are looking for more and more ways to make ends meet. Teachers are afraid if the budget doesn't increase soon, they'll be forced to cut extracirricular classes like art and music. "The budget cuts are really getting us. I am learning to be very creative. I have asked the community to donate things, I've seen the budget drop, and so some of my lessons I'm unable to teach," says Whiteside Elementary art teacher Dawn Green.
Green and others at Whiteside Elementary are asking parents to contact their legislators in Lubbock and Austin and demand more funding for public schools in Texas.
