As Lubbock police continue to investigate an attempted kidnapping near the Texas Tech campus, student safety is top priority. Last week, a female student was walking near Akron Avenue between 30th and 19th.

A white male drove by her several times and then reached out the driver's side window, attempting to grab her hair. The victim escaped and the man quickly drove off.
Students were immediately informed of the incident through an internet newsletter called Tech Announce.

Tech police chief Ronald Seacrist says its vital that students know about safety issues on and around campus. "We would be remiss if we didn't make people aware that the potential is out there, so we share our information with everyone that we can to make them aware. Our portion is obviously the concern for the safety of the students, that's the biggest thing for us, yes it's off campus but it's still one of our students, so we want our students to know what's going on."
