The hard-hats are still on at the new Lubbock County Detention Center, but sheriff's officials say they're on track to finish up soon. Construction is still going strong on the 400,000 square foot, 100-million dollar project.
Chief Kelly Rowe says they're at the last 10% of the build, checking things like security systems and electrical wiring. Hiring new employees is right on track, and he says they want to make the switch as soon as possible. The big question is when?
Says Rowe, "Worst thing we could do is rush into this building. I don't have an exact date but I think it's safe to say that we'll hopefully be ready to move inmates into this facility by late spring or early summer."
