The changing season means the possibility of some severe weather in our area, so Texas Tech ran a test of its emergency sirens this morning.

At 10:00 Tuesday morning, the severe weather sirens were activated across campus.

It was a test of the system and it reminded students, staff and faculty of what to do when there's severe weather in the area.

The TechAlert emergency notification system also delivered text messages and phone calls to students at the same time.

"While the sirens are meant to tell people outdoors that there is a problem, the TechAlert system is very comprehensive.  It's phone, it's text, it's email and it would cover a variety of emergency situations," Texas Tech Communications Director, Sally Post says.

While Texas Tech does have severe weather sirens, the city of Lubbock does not.
