The Texas Senate approved Bill 362 that will require voters to show a picture ID.

The bill authored by Senator Troy Fraser will now go the Texas House of Representatives for approval.

There are several similar bills in the house, but some take a stricter stance.

Some Texas representatives feel that a new ID card needs to be made, which has brought up questions over how will the program be paid for without creating a poll tax situation.

If Bill 362 is passed, people will have to show a driver's license or a picture ID at the November 2009 election.

Lt. Governor David Dewhurst has praised the passage of Bill 362.
