If you're worried about paying the new water rate, a member of Lubbock's City Council wants to show you how to get help. Councilmember Linda DeLeon is hosting a meeting this Monday night from 6 until 8 at the Maggie Trejo Supercenter where she'll hand out applications for the city's Water Assistance Program. To qualify for the program, you need to earn less than $22, 000 a year. You also must be one of the following: disabled, 65 or older, or have a child living at home with you. "It's not gonna reduce the entire amount, but it'll soften the cushion a little bit - by five, six dollars or maybe a little less, but something is better than the full impact that they'll be facing on April 1st," says DeLeon.
If you can't make it to Monday's meeting, you can always apply to be part of the assistance program by visiting the Community Development Department at City Hall.
