A young man is recovering from a gun shot wound after a drive-by shooting in Central Lubbock.

Officers responded to a 'shots-fired' call just after 2 o-clock this afternoon on the 4900 block of 42nd Street. Witnesses tell us it was a car with five young men inside that fired the shots. Bullets shattered the glass front door, also hitting a 17-year-old who was standing just inside the door. Officers also found a bullet in the wall in the front of the home.

Witnesses tell us the car had pulled up outside of the house and started honking when the homeowner came outside, shouting at them to leave. That's when one of the passengers pulled out a handgun and started shooting. The young man inside the home was shot in the left buttocks area, he was transported to UMC with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be okay.

Police have not yet caught up with the passengers in the gray car, that fact makes two young witnesses this afternoon scared of what could happen next in their neighborhood.

Patricia Leyva, 11 years old: "I was frightened, and that's because my room's in the front so i'm scared to sleep in there now."

Abbie Levario, 10 years old: "I was scared because they might come tonight. Tonight, and they might have another drive by too."

We spoke with the homeowner, he says the kids in the car are peers of his son's and that they've been in a dispute for awhile. However, his son was not the one shot. He also tells me this wasn't the first time the boys in teh car have come by and threatened, it was just the first time they've actually fired shots.
