Governor Perry Visits Hub City

Governor Rick Perry made a stop in Lubbock this afternoon to promote his stance on protecting Texas businesses, without Washington's help.
The governor announced about two weeks ago he would not be accepting the $555-million federal dollars for unemployment insurance, saying the strings attached would hurt Texas businesses more than it would help
Today, Governor Perry met with employees at O'Hair's Shutters for a tour and also to reinforce his decision to decline that money. O'Hair's is just one of the small businesses Perry says he's trying to protect when it comes to the unemployed. Perry says if he had accepted the stimulus money, it would've increased the tax burden on businesses.
It would've also forced compaines to limit hiring and raise prices to counteract the tax hikes. Perry says that's just too many strings attached for the long run, he says he hopes to keep Texas in charge -- not Washington. He says his decision will help small businesses like O'Hair's stay ahead.
Governor Rick Perry: "We're going to do everything we can in this state to make sure we keep a good business climate, where he stays in business, he keeps these folks employed and I think that's the way Texans will be happier."
Not all Texas lawmakers agree with Governor Perry's decision to decline that money, including fellow Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson.
