Local AT&T workers are among the thousands set to go on strike this weekend...if a new contract agreement can't be worked out.
Five regional AT&T districts' contracts expire Saturday night. If a new deal can't be reached, the Communication Workers of America has approved a strike for its workers. Representatives of our local district tell us the main problem is a projected increase in health care costs. Local 6203 President David Patton says they're ready and waiting.
"We are prepared to go on strike at the company's been preparing also. If it comes down to that and we have to do that, we'll certainly do that."
Patton's union includes over 300 AT&T employees. He says they bring over $300,000 dollars a month to Lubbock's economy.
