Sources Say Swoopes Memorabilia Could Be Auctioned

Updated: January 7, 2009
When you`re one of the best athletes to ever come out of Texas Tech, you`re bound to collect your share of awards, and Sheryl Swoopes certainly has done that. But sources are telling KAMC-28 that Swoopes is and has been storing some of that old memorabilia at a local storage facility here in Lubbock. They`re also saying Swoopes has stopped payment on that storage unit and now the owners could be holding an auction in the near future, possibly as soon as next month. Amongst the items expected to be auctioned include her 1993 Naismith Trophy, three gold medals Swoopes earned as a member of the U.S. women`s basketball team in 1996, 2000 and 2004, and some game-worn jerseys. Texas Tech has no comment on the story, and the agent for Swoopes did not immediately return a phone call. On Monday, KAMC-28 talked to the storage business and they said a legal notice is scheduled to run in the Avalanche-Journal starting in July. The auction is expected to take place on July 20th.
