Driving With Dementia

Deciding when to give up the car keys is a difficult decision that many families face everyday, including the family of 64-year-old Judy McCullough- the Denver City woman that went missing for 18 days.
As doctors continue to diagnose seniors, like McCullough, with dementia, it's hard to tell when it's time for those folks to give up driving.
Corporal John Gonzalez with the Department of Public Safety says balancing a person's independence with the safety of those on the road can be hard, but it's necessary.
"It can be dangerous, obviously, for the person that's driving and for the general public because a lot of times, we don't know the other person in the vehicle, we don't know what's going on," Cpl. Gonzalez says.
If you, or someone you know, may be having problems driving, Cpl. Gonzalez says you should notify DPS and they can look into his or her driving abilities.
