Lubbock is joining a force of more than 300 cities across the nation in a protest against what some say are unnecessary taxes.
The TEA party -- short for 'taxed enough already' -- started about 5 p.m. out at the Courthouse gazebo. An estimated 1500 people filled the lawn to make their voices heard, saying today's protest is a backlash towards excessive government spending and bailouts after President Obama took office.
Several speakers addressed the crowd -- including Texas former Secretary of State Roger Williams -- who says he's proud of the voices of Lubbock.
Roger Williams, Former Secretary of State: "I hope what we've accomplished today is sent a message to the federal government in this case, that America -- regardless of their party affiliation -- are tired of higher taxes. They're tired of being taxed, tired of being taxed out of business, and getting nothing in return."
Lubbock was one of 18 Texas cities that participated in TEA parties today, including Dallas, Houston, and Austin.
