On Monday, a new superintendent was named for LISD. Monday morning, in a special meeting, the LISD school board voted unanimously to name Dr. Karen Garza as the lone finalist for the job.
Dr. Garza currently lives in Houston, where she is the Chief Academic Officer for Houston ISD.That basically means she's second in command at the largest school district in the state.
Dr. Garza tells us she has family ties to the South Plains and is looking forward to Lubbock and her time on LISD's team, "I see great things for the future here, certainly there's a strong foundation that's been put in place, there's a lot this community can be proud of in the schools, but I think there's a lot of opportunity to build upon that and do some really extraordinary things."
Garza will officially start with LISD on July 1st.
