Some area supermarkets are increasing security measures, after a series of meat thefts in stores. This week, United Supermarkets installed security sensors in the soaker pads of meat packing that will set off an alarm near the front door when a person tries to leave the store without paying.

United employees say there've been several thefts recently made by people stuffing the meat down their pants, all of that stolen product ends up costing you, the customer.

Eddie Owens, United Supermarkets: "The whole process really is aimed at giving our customers the very best prices we possibly can, in order to do that, we have to save wherever we can. Saving by not having to replace those articles that are stolen is a huge, huge, huge part of our business."

Now -- the sensors aren't just on the meat products, they're on several of the higher priced products like over the counter medications, and beauty products. All of those are high theft items for grocery stores.
