One of Lubbock's oldest and most famous homes is on the move. About 100 movers, electricians and police officers lined West Loop 289 and moved Tara House a few miles northwest of the city Saturday. The five-mile move took about three hours. Tara House was split into two pieces and moved using two semi trucks, railroad planks to steady the trucks when they crossed medians, and about a dozen police officers to direct traffic. Tara House owner Mike Haggard posted signs on the moving mammoth to thank all businesses that donated supplies and manpower to make the trip a success.

"We're past the hard part, the rest is gonna be a lot easier. It's gonna be out in the country, we don't have to worry about as many safety issues with the moms driving out to Berl Huffman, stuff like that. So it takes a load off," says Haggard.

Movers placed the home beside the Stars and Stripes Drive In Saturday, and Haggard will move Tara House to his property on Tuesday.
