It's the first in the region to be devoted to women and children's care, and it's open now -- right here in Lubbock.

Covenant's Women and Children's Hospital opened it's doors today. The new center features a 'My Town' theme, with everything from a zoo to a beauty shop, to prairie dog town. Kids can even get in a game of hopscotch during their stay!

Bathrooms have shower-tub combos so that the little ones are bathed with ease, and the floors are ergonomically designed to be easy for the constantly-on-foot staff.

Michelle Stephens, Covenant Marketing Manager: "Having one facility for women and children is really going to help us recruit the best physicians, the best nurses, and maintain that, just the best level of care for our patients here. We've taken just every detail and based it around family care and around kids."

They made the official move early this morning, closing the old children's emergency room around 6 a.m. and moved all the patients into the new building around 9 a.m. Stephens tells us everything went smoothly and the patients are already settling in.
