Agassi Continues Run At Wimbledon

Wimbledon, England (Sports Network) - Playing in his final Wimbledon tournament, 36-year-old American icon Andre Agassi moved into the round of 32 Thursday at the venerable All England Club. The 25th-seeded Agassi handled Italian Andreas Seppi 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 in 2 hours, 23 minutes on Court 1. The legendary star moved on despite piling up 43 unforced errors. Agassi announced last weekend that he would retire from the tour after the U.S. Open later this summer. He`s been slowed by back problems over the last couple of years and is competing in only his fifth tournament this season. The former world No. 1 Agassi is now 46-12 lifetime at Wimbledon, where he`s playing for the 14th time in his illustrious career. The eight-time Grand Slam champion, last year`s U.S. Open runner-up to Roger Federer, captured his lone Wimbledon title in 1992 and was the 1999 runner-up here to his long-time rival Pete Sampras. Agassi will meet the Rafael Nadal-Robert Kendrick winner in the third round. Eleventh-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo made an exit here on Day 4, as he gave way to rising Serb Novak Djokovic 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, 6-4 in a match that was completed after being suspended here on Wednesday. Djokovic was a French Open quarterfinalist earlier this month. Thirteenth-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych advanced by outlasting crafty Frenchman Fabrice Santoro 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. Other seeded second-round winners were No. 18 Marcos Baghdatis and No. 22 Finn Jarkko Nieminen. The 2006 Australian Open runner-up Baghdatis, of Cyprus, was leading Andrei Pavel 3-0 in the first set when the Romanian retired, while Nieminen pasted Brit Martin Lee 6-4, 6-0, 6-3.
