Is it still safe for your kids in Lubbock schools? Despite the rise in confirmed swine flu cases nation-wide, Lubbock ISD officials say 'yes it is!' LISD nurses are keeping a close eye on the number of kids coming to their office with flu-like symptoms. So far, those numbers haven't increased since swine flu was discovered here in the US. But just in case the illness is confirmed near us, teachers are reviewing basic, good hygiene practices with their students.

"Frequent hand washing. Covering your cough or your sneeze with your elbow. And just not touching your face, not touching your eyes, nose and mouth because that's the way that germs enter our body. And so we're always providing that instruction to our children in a school setting, but this is a key time for us to reinforce that education," says Niki Sue with LISD Health Services.

LISD is paying close attention to Lubbock's Health Department, and they'll take immediate action to protect their students if any cases are confirmed here in this area.
