The much anticipated alcohol election ended Saturday night, expanding alcohol sales into the city.

We posted up at both campaign parties to get reactions as the numbers came in.  Early voting accounted for over 40,000 votes.  Those results showed 65% to 35% passing expanded alcohol sales in the city.  Proposition 2 passed through early voting with 70% majority, passing the sale of alcohol by the drink in private clubs and restaurants.

Here's what both sides of the issue said as the numbers came in.

Melissa Pierce, Pro-Alcohol Campaign:
"I think it just speaks to Lubbock ... that we're ready for this.  Not just the volunteers, but all the people that voted for this were obviously, ready for it. We've been talking about it for nearly 40 years now and it's finally come to fruition."

Connie Curry, Anti-Alcohol Campaign:
"I have concerns for families, I have concerns for Lubbock itself.  The physical face of Lubbock and what it will begin to look like will be much different over the next year or two.  A large concern for families for children.  We'll have the cases, I'm sure are going to rise in child abuse, spousal abuse, drunk driving accidents, and that is a huge concern."
