Lawsuit Could Hold-up Alcohol in the Hub

Now that alcohol is coming to the city, many folks are wondering just how long until they can buy it at local stores. That all comes down to how soon the lawsuit between the owners of the strip and the City of Lubbock can be resolved. The owners were recently granted a temporary restraining order that stops the city and the TABC from handing out any liquor licenses.
Attorneys for Pinkies and Majestic Inc. say the current zoning laws are unfair to package stores and they just want an even playing field for all businesses before anyone gets to start selling alcohol inside the Hub City. The normal waiting period to get a liquor license is about 60 to 90 days, but this lawsuit could hold up the process indefinitely. A hearing is set for May 18th. "Hopefully at that time, we can continue our talks with the city and arrive at a solution that works for them and still be in compliance with the standards set out in state law," say, Zach Brady, the attorney for the Strip owners. We'll of course keep following this lawsuit and bring you the latest information on if or when the restraining order is lifted.
