An early morning shooting in East Lubbock leaves one dead and another critically injured. Now police are working to identify and capture those responsible. The shooting happened just after 4:00 this morning in the 2400 Block of East 8th Street. Police say the victim who survived, drove to a home on East Cornell to get some help.
Police say the home at 1729 East Cornell is the 34-year-old man knocked on the door and told the people inside he was dying. When police arrived, they found the man suffering from several gun shot wounds, and they also discovered a 36-year-old woman shot to death inside his car.
Police say it appears 34-year-old Trent Johnson and 36-year-old Angela Holt were inside a car when someone opened fire on them along 8th St. Police say Holt was hit in the head and most likely died immediately. Johnson took several bullets, but still managed to drive away ... hitting a utility pole as he made his way to East Cornell.
Cpt. Greg Stevens with the LPD says, "What went on when the shooting occurred, we simply don't know right now. That's obviously the focus of the investigation, whether it was some interaction with other people, or one other person, we're just not clear. That they knew the shooter or didn't know the shooter, whether there was another vehicle involved, we simply don't know right now."
Now Trent Johnson remains in critical condition at UMC. At this time, police have no suspects in the case. If you saw or heard the shooting or have any information, call the Crimeline at 741-1000.
