The first confirmed case of Swine Flu hits the South Plains today. Health officials announced that a young child has tested positive for the H1N1 virus in Lubbock County.

Now, they're not releasing too much information right now, but we do know the child is younger than five -- not school age -- so no one other than the family has been exposed.

Nancy Haney with the Lubbock Health Department tells us the family took the child to the Emergency Room on Friday because the child wasn't feeling well. Because of the symptoms, they went ahead and tested it at the health department. The results showed today that child does indeed have the H1N1 flu.

Now, the child does not go to school, so he or she was not exposed to any other kids. The child also had no pre-existing health problems that officials know of. Haney says they have a pretty good idea of how the child was exposed, but they're not releasing that information just yet.

The family members are being tested, however those results are not yet in. Officials say they have told the family to refrain from any public contact just to be safe.

Officials tell us the child is being treated, and is recovering at home. They say there should be no sense of public panic, because this is a mild case and shoudl be treated as a mild flu.
