Lubbock residents are gearing up to tell City Council members to keep the new animal shelter out of Mackenzie Park. A multiple - neighborhood coalition will speak at Thursday's council meeting. They will ask members to find an alternate location for the city's new shelter. Right now, the city plans to build the shelter beside the main entrance of the park, but folks who live nearby say that will detract from family visits and recreation inside the park.

"The dog shelter that they have already is only a few blocks away, and now you want to relcoate it at the entrance of a major park. That doesn't make business sense, unless the business is disregard the people in the area, " says Donnell Hooper.

They're scheduled to speak inside City Council chambers at 7:30 Thursday morning.
