Air Force cadets are in town this week, training for national competitions. More than a dozen officers and cadets are using Littlefield's airport for glider training. You may have seen them in the sky - they are one and two-seater planes with no engines. Students at the Academy come from Colorado to train here on the South Plains.
"These guys get great training opportunities down here. The weather is perfect, the air field is quiet, we're the only ones operating out here, so we can do a lot of things that we can't do back home," says Lieutenant Colonel Lawrence Pravecek.
Students are training for two national compeititions in Utah, and an international competition in Germany - all happening this summer.
