Central Lubbock Home Invasion

By: Julie Musgrave
Updated: June 18, 2009

Police are looking into an early morning home invasion in Central Lubbock.

Police tell us around 8 a.m. this morning, a young man broke in through a back window of an elderly woman's home. He then grabbed her by the wrists and demanded $700.

We spoke to the woman this afternoon, still shaken, she says in the past she let the young man do some yard work for her. Fortunately, the woman managed to get away unharmed, but the young man got away on a bicycle.

This makes the 7th home invasion just this year, that's already halfway to last year's number of 14. But police aren't really sure where this trend is headed.

Capt. Greg Stevens, LPD: "It kind of gives the benefit of the doubt, low last year, high this year, so we're half, we're at 50%. And we're halfway through the year, so it seems like we're on an even trend. That's not to say we wouldn't have ten in the rest of the year, or one. There's no way to know that."

Police are still looking for the suspect, he's described as a black man, in his early 20's or late teens, and possibly wearing a red bandanna.

If you have any information, call the Crimeline, 741-1000.
