Floyd County sheriff's officials arrived Saturday afternoon after a local farmer called about the plane's debris littering a field in Dougherty. Ofificials believe the plane crashed on Thursday, and they say the last contact with the pilot was with the Plainview airport. Both the pilot and the passenger were ejected from the plane. They are identified as 53-year-old Rainer Aberer and 56-year-old Sharen Lee Sezersen, both of Houston.
While they didn't file an official flight plan, officials say they were flying out of Houston. Originally, Floyd County Sheriff's officials were looking into Thursday's high winds as a possible cause, but now the Federal Aviation Administration has taken over the investigation.
