Texas Tech Regents passed an almost ten percent increase for tuition next year.

In the meeting, members argued faculty salaries aren't high enough to stay competitive with other Texas universities.  They also said with this increase, Tech will still be way under for tuition costs compared with almost every other Texas school.  The increase will raise tuition about $350 dollars per semester for every full time student.  That money will go to raise faculty salaries and possibly increase scholarships.

Texas Tech President Guy Bailey:
"We understand that this isn't the easiest time to go to college and we understand that students over the last decade have paid an increasing part of the cost of college.  So the more money that we can put back into financial aid for students, we think the better everybody is."

Tech froze tuition last year and they'll also use some of the money raised this year to recover those funds.
