Many holiday travelers will be hitting the road this Fourth of July and DPS wants them to stay safe.

Troopers will be working overtime this weekend and they'll be on the look out for drunk drivers, speeders or those not wearing seatbelts.

Last year DPS troopers made over 800 arrests and Corporal John Gonzalez says he wants people to think before getting in their cars this weekend. "When you're in a vehicle you're responsible for everybody that's in that vehicle and that includes your family and your children. So be responsible with that because you can't get that back, you can never get it back. It's taken away in a second and there's no going back."

This weekend troopers will be participating in Operation Care - it stands for "Combined Accident Reduction Effort" and it's aimed at reducing fatalities during the holidays.
