Back yard barbecues and fireworks shows with friends and family are tradition this time of year.  But imagine throwing a cookout for 3,000 of your closest friends.

That's what Dr. Robert Grimes and his brother Dr. Donald Grimes have been doing in Lubbock County for the last five years.  The Grimes brothers and the community put on this extravaganza for those close to them, for free.

Robert Grimes says it's his way of being thankful.

"Once year, at least once a year, we ought to step back and just thank God for the blessings that He's bestowed upon our land, and our people, and give thanks for our soldiers who have fought so hard for our freedoms," Grimes said.

Grimes said it takes about two months to plan the event, but, it's worth every minute.
