Slaton Police have confirmed that one fo their officers is facing criminal charges for illegal activity conducted while on duty.
Sgt. Tim Velasques was booked earlier this week for theft by a public servant, a Class A misdemeanor.
Chief Royce Goodson said that Velasques came under investigation after several reliable informant said that Velasques was involved in illegal activity including drugs.
Slaton Police spoke with the DEA and conducted their own sting operation where Velasques was to check in $200 as evidence taken from a suspects purse.
Chief Goodson said that money was never checked in prompting the firing and arrest of Velasques.
Velasques is currently out on bond, but is still under investigation for other activities.
