Amber Alerts are used every day, alerting the public about missing children. They're sent out fast and travel from person to person, even business to business. Just this week, someone took advantage of that system, and a Lubbock woman got caught up in the scam.

"I was trying to find some sort of update whether the little girl had been found and I couldn't find any information on television or the Internet so I was quite worried and wanted to find out," says Zeta Ray with REMAX. A couple hours later, she figured out it was all a hoax.

If you get an Amber Alert on your cell, you can always call the Department of Public Safety to confirm whether or not that alert's real or just a rumor.
