The Government's 'Car Allowance Rebate Program' officially kicks off Friday, and if you're looking to trade in your old car, this may be your way out.

The program is also known as 'Cash For Clunkers' and it could save you up to $4500 on a new car.

But there are some restrictions.

Your car must have an EPA gas mileage of 18 miles per gallon or less and built after 1984.

The vehicle must also be registered and insured by the same owner for a full year before you go to trade in.

Consumers have until November 1st to take advantage of the deal or until the federal funds run out.
