Tech Faculty Circulates Petition Against Gonzales

A petition circulating throughout the Texas Tech faculty is showing disapproval for the recent hiring of Aberto Gnzales. The former attorney general was hired two weeks ago to teach a political science course and as a diversity recruiter. Just a few days after the petition was created, it already has nearly 50 signatures. Dr. Walter Schaller, the author of the petition says the reason some of the faculty disproves of the hire is due to Gonazales's controversial resignation as President George W. Bush's attorney general. "I don't think we should be hiring gonzales. Because of his conduct in the department of justice as attorney general, as counsel to the president, I think he's done many things that mean he's not really deserving to be hired by Tech," said Schaller.
The other gripe on the petition is that Texas Tech Chancellor Kent Hance was too involved in the hiring process.
Hance took issue with the petition, saying that he was not responsible for the hiring of Gonzales and that the petition is politically motivated by faculty members who do not appreciate Gonzales's efforts to protect American citizens.
