Garrett Returns to Dallas

The release by the organization said that Garrett`s responsibilities would not be determined until the search for a new head coach is completed. "Jason is someone who is held in high regard as a bright offensive mind throughout the NFL," said Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones. "The nature and timing of this hire is unique in that we were dealing with a limited window of time in which to talk to Jason about returning to Dallas. We are grateful to the Dolphins for granting the Cowboys permission to explore this opportunity. Jason will now proceed further in our head coaching search as an in-house candidate." The Cowboys have also sought permission to interview San Diego defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, San Francisco offensive coordinator Norv Turner and New Orleans defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs for the vacant head coaching position. All of this comes on the heels of Bill Parcells` sudden retirement earlier this week. The 65-year-old Parcells had been the coach of the Cowboys since January of 2003 and posted a regular-season record of 34-30 during his four-year tenure in Dallas. The Cowboys had three winning seasons and two playoff appearances under Parcells, but the team dropped both of its postseason games -- losing to Carolina in 2003 and Seattle this past season.
