An employee at the South University Veterinary Hospital, Katherine Crouch, is in critical condition after being pinned between a wall and block of concrete.

This employee went to UMC with serious injuries. Officials tell us the south university vet hospital was doing a little remodeling inside the building in the back of the clinic when workers hit a support beam, causing a concrete shelf to fall. That shelf pinned her between the support beam and the next concrete shelf down. They say she was concious and speaking to EMS when they wheeled her out, but she's suffering from what they're calling serious to critical injuries. There were 23 people on the scene including a specialty team that had airbags they inflated to get some room in between Crouch and the concrete so they could pull her out.

"They went in and raised the beam just a little bit to make room for her head to come out so right now we're putting some cribbing, some pieces of wood in place to keep the piece of concrete up where it is and it doesn't slide off and hurt anybody else," says Division Chief Steve Odorizzi.

The pet clinic closed early today because of this accident.
