Alcohol Applications Flood City Hall

The lawsuit brought by the Strip's retailers has been voluntarily dismissed, opening the floodgates for nearly a hundred alcohol sales applications to flood City Hall for permits.

After receiving the alcohol sales applications from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, applicants must then go to Lubbock's City Zoning Department to get five inspection signatures.  Lubbock's new zoning laws went into effect Monday and Bill Boon with Planning and Zoning says they have already been working overtime to get things moving.

"By starting a week early at least getting the inspections out of the way, we're able to head that off and start signing them as soon as they walk in with that inspection form and we've already signed off on several today so it's obviously working." 

Officials with United Supermarkets tell us they have already submitted applications for five of their locations and are waiting on what are called 'variance hearings' for four others.
