The city of Lubbock has approved new alcohol permits, and you can now expect to see wine and beer in stores in about a month.

The owners of the Strip - the ones who filed the lawsuit holding up the approval of alcohol permits - dismissed their suit against the city Monday. So city workers have been busy all day, signing off on certificate requests and getting business owners one step closer to selling alcohol in their stores. So far they've approved about a hundred requests.

"We're ready. We've been ready for several weeks. All of the coolers and store fixtures are in place, it's just a matter now of finishing the legal process," says Eddie Owens with United Supermarkets.

United has five stores now approved to sell wine and beer. They're working with Lubbock City Council on zoning requests for their other four, but expect to start stocking shelves for their approved stores in four to six weeks.
