A Lubbock Police officer shoots and kills a pitbull Wednesday morning after the dog bit him several times.
Officers responded to an aggressive dog call around 10:00 Wednesday morning near 37th and Memphis.
When they arrived, officers found two pitbulls.
Animal Services captured one of the dogs, but the other dog lunged toward an officer, biting him on the leg.
The officer tased the dog twice without success, so he shot the dog multiple times.
"They certainly could resort to deadly force immediately if the situation calls for it; however, it is a last resort to use and in this case, the officers were there for almost 20 minutes, attempting with Animal Control to capture the dog. Unfortunately, they were unable to and in fact, they tried to use non-lethal weapons, tasers, against the dog with no success," Lubbock Police Captain Greg Stevens says.
The officer was treated for multiple bite wounds at University Medical Center.
