Group Fights Bond Proposal

The Lubbock City Council voted yes to a November bond election Thursday, despite a group's complaints against the committee that came up with the proposals. The group West Texas Organizing Strategy wanted council members to re-evaluate the Citizen's Advisory Committee's bond package. They say the CAC focused too many of their projects on Southwest Lubbock, and not enough on renovating libraries and pools in older parts of the city.
"We're asking people to join us in signing this sheet saying we want this changed, and we are going to present this at the 27th when they're going to vote on it. But we're also checking with the Department of Justice. We're not going to quit now," says Dr. Lane Powell with WTOS.
Members of the CAC we spoke with say the input they got from folks was all focused on 34th Street renovations and concerns in Southwest Lubbock, so that's where they directed the majority of the money.
