The driver involved in the deadly hit and run accident over the weekend wants to tell her side of the story.

Jessica Tanguma gave a statement to police Monday, and now her lawyer, Jeff Nicholson, wants to clear up confusion about Tanguma's involvement in the hit and run. He says Tanguma went out to Tequila Jungle around 1 a.m. to meet up with friends. She was driving an ex-boyfriend home a little before two when she tried changing lanes near 50th Street and Interstate 27, and that's when she hit 21-year-old Luis Hernandez. Nicholson says they pulled over about a half a mile away from the wreck, but did not see any blood on the car and had no idea what they had hit.

"She's gonna carry this with her, but she can have some relief knowing that it was just an accident and probably Mr. Hernandez was more responsible for what happened to him than she was," says Nicholson.

Nicholson goes on to say alcohol was not a factor for Tanguma in this wreck. If charged with failure to stop and render aid, she could face two to ten years in jail.
